Looking on social media, Christmas Eve boxes for kids are all the rage nowadays, but why should they have all the fun? In this post, I’m exploring the various kinds of goodies you can include in a Christmas Eve Box for Adults – on a budget!
What are Christmas Eve boxes?
The concept of a Christmas Eve Box is definitely becoming more popular, and is a great excuse to get into the festive spirit the evening before the Big Day.
The idea is to fill a box with small goodies to present to your loved ones, and typically include something cosy, something pampering/fun, and something to eat.
However, this year has been tough on most of us financially, and it’s oh-so-easy to go over-budget during the festive season, which is why I wanted to share with you today ideas for Christmas Eve Boxes for adults at three different price points: £10, £20 and £30.
So, grab a box (an old one wrapped in wrapping paper will do, or find some cheap ones in shops such as Matalan or Tesco – or if you’re after one that lasts, Not On The High Street ha some beautiful wooden ones available), and read on for inspiration for three different Christmas Eve Boxes for Adults, at three different price points:
Christmas Eve Box: The £10 Package
Fluffy socks: Women Fabulous Fluffy Soft Slippers Non Slip Bed Sock (Blue), £5.99
I find that these cost more for men, so if you’re picking a pair up for your boyfriend and he doesn’t mind/can fit in a pair of women’s fluffy socks, go for those! Primark is also a great place to pick up fluffy socks for cheap.
Face mask: Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Camomile Tissue Mask, 32g, £2
You can’t go wrong with Garnier tissue masks, and at only £2, it’s a treat on a budget!
Hot chocolate: Cadbury Instant Hot Chocolate Sachet, 4 sachets for £1
Hot chocolate is the perfect accompaniment to The Snowman on Christmas Eve, and Cadbury’s hot chocolate is unrivalled.
Mini marshmallows: Pink & White Mini Marshmallows, 89p
You wouldn’t want a naked hot chocolate now would you?
Christmas Eve Box: The £20 Package
Cross Band Slippers: LIBWYS Women’s Cross Band Soft Plush Slippers Open Toe Memory Foam, £11.99
The slippers of the year as far as Instagram is concerned – without the expensive price tag!
These make a great alternative for men or women looking for less open-toe action and at only £8.99, are a total steal: riemot Mens Memory Foam Fluffy Slippers
Primark, supermarkets and New Look are also great ports of call when looking for slippers on a budget!
Bubble bath: Imperial Leather Bath 500ml Moonlit Skies, currently 98p
This bubble bath is getting a lot of attention – and for good reason! I recently picked up a bottle and it smells amazing – I’ll definitely be using some before bed on Christmas eve.
A good book: Where the Crawdads Sing, currently reduced to £5.99
Why not include one of the most critically acclaimed books of the year for them to bed down with in the evening, or make a start on in the bath?
Chocolate: Terry’s Chocolate Orange, £1
It’s a sin not to have a Terry’s Chocolate Orange during the festive season – and it’s practically a fact that it tastes even better on Christmas Eve than at any other time of the year.
Christmas Eve Box: The £30 Package
PJs: Satin Night in Pyjama Set, £16
Satin? Check. A colour that suits everyone? Check. Affordable? Check.
For men, try these Woven Brushed PJs which will be super soft for those who wear them – and those who snuggle into them.
Games: Monopoly Deal Card Game, currently £3.50
This is proving to be one of the most popular card games out there right now, and at that price, it’d be a crime to leave it.
Chocolate: Lindt Chocolate Reindeer, currently £2.50
You can’t beat Lindt for indulgent chocolate – especially when it’s festive themed!
Alcohol: Specially Selected Irish Cream 70cl, £6.99
Rumoured to be as good as Bailey’s, yet half the price. Add in a couple of blocks of ice, and you’ve got yourself a tipple that will help you nod off amidst all the excitement.
Photoframe: Plain White Photo Frame, £1
Include a framed photo from a particular memory that they can enjoy all year round. Poundland has some great frames, along with Wilkos or Asda.
As lovely as a Christmas Eve Box is, it shouldn’t be something you’re guilt-tripped into through social media. It’s there as an added festivity to start the celebrations a few hours early – but there’s a lot to be said for spending the evening with your loved ones, lighting a candle you already own, eating treats that you already have, and watching a film you know you love.
Whilst these Christmas Eve Boxes for Adults cater to many budgets, and can be mixed and matched until it suits what you can afford, don’t be tempted to spend more than you can comfortably allocate. The Instagram photo in December isn’t worth worrying about debt in January for.
